About ART, Pune
ART was founded by Farokh Irani and Vineeta Tandon, primarily to offer free, permanent housing for rescued and severely injured animals, initially with the set up of a retirement home for dogs that had no chance of adoption. ART then progressed into offering top-notch medical facilities for street animals at supremely affordable costs. Today, Animal Rescue Trust, Pune offers a raft of services to care for animals, reduce human-animal conflict, and educate and champion this cause legally and socially.

Farokh Irani, Founder and Managing Truste
Farokh Irani is the Founder of Animal Rescue Trust and is a businessman by Profession. A dedicated and down-to-earth person, our animal shelter on Manjri-Theur road in Pune is his brainchild. This vision has incorporated his compassion and passion into a lifetime commitment for animal welfare.
His chief goal is to establish a cordial co-existence between humans and animals.
His vision for ART is to bring about a meaningful change for the growth of animal welfare efforts from Rescues and Legal Aid to a multispeciality free hospital for Community Animals.
Vineeta Tandon, Co-Founder and Shelter Manager
Vineeta Tandon is a former Animal Welfare Officer (H) with the Animal Welfare Board of India, and has been a very active animal activist for years. She manages the ART shelter along with a dedicated team of passionate and enthusiastic staff.
She has filed PILs, Writ petitions, court cases for justice to Animals and has worked extensively for the implementation of Laws with various Government Authorities and Police. She has also conducted trainings for Maharashtra State Police, PCMC police, Govt Veterinary doctors etc.
She has a wealth of information about Animal Welfare Act, Rescues and rehabilitation, conservation methods, and the Laws pertaining to Animals.
She has rehabilitated countless dogs rescued from illegal dog breeding, unkempt in tiny cages, and discarded by callous owners, thanks to her vast expertise. She has actively posed as Undercover Investigator for uncovering and bringing to justice illegal dog breeders and pet shops in Pune.
She has authored a book named SANKALAN: a compilation of various aspects and Prevention to Cruelty to Animals Act; translated in Marathi .
As Shelter Manager, Vineeta has grown ART from just a Retirement Home in 2018 to having a modernised Operation Theatre, Paralysed ward, Canine unit, Feline Section and now a separate Porcine & Bovine section.
She is an Artist by profession.
